Cool vecka

Real learning gets to the heart of what it means to be human. Through learning we re-create ourselves. Through learning we become able to do something we never were able to do. Throught learning we reperceive the world and our relationship to it. Through learning we extend our capacity to create, to be part of the generative process of life.

This, then, is the basic meaning of a "learning organization" - an organization that is continually expanding its capacity to create its future. For a learning organization, "adaptive learning"("survival learning") must be joined by "generative learning", learning that enhances our capacity to create.

"Learning organizations" are those organizations where people continually expand their capacity to create the results they truly desire, where new and expansive patterns of thinking are nurtured, where collective aspiration is set free, and where people are continually learning to see the whole together.

Team Learning is vital because teams, not individuals, are the fundamental learning unit in modern organizations. This is where the rubber meets the road; unless teams can learn, the organinzation cannot learn.

Systems Thinking.

A learning organization is a place where people are continually discovering how they create their reality. And how they can change it. As Archimedes said, "Give me a lever long enough . . . and single-handed I can move the world."

So, this book is for the learners, especially those of us interested in the art and practice of collective learning. For managers, this book should help in identifying the specific practices, skills, and disciplines that can make building learning organizations less of an occult art. For parents, this book should help in letting our children be our teachers, as well as we are theirs -- for they have much to teach us about learning as a way of life.

Optimist eller pessimist

How do beliefs/expections influence our performance? How do beliefs impact reality?

- Positive beliefs create motivation, which in turn leads to greater effort, which usually results in better results.

- Our mind has a need for consistency. We all have a mental schema of the world. The mind doesn't like when there is an inconsistancy between the external and the internal. The mind can update the schema, discard the conflicting evidence, or create a reality where the inaccuracy will be proven true.

- Our beliefs impact our interpretation of our results (e.g. got a poor grade - because I am stupid, or because I didn't work hard enough?), and that interpretation than reinforces our beliefs.

Learn to fail, or fail to learn. The most creative scientist of all time, Thomas Edison, also failed the most times.

Pessimists are realistic on their short-term goals and on their long-term goals. Optimists are unrealistic on their short-term goals, but realistic on their long-term goals. How? Tal Ben-Shahar tell you how. (

Realistisk optimist.

"We are what we think". "All that we are arises with our thoughts". "With our thoughts, we make our world". -- The Buddha

"Beliefs in personal efficacy affect life choices, level of motivation, quality of functioning, resilience to adversity and vulnerability to stress and depression." -- Albert Bandura

"People who regard themselves as highly efficacious act, think, and feel differently from those who perceive themselves as inefficacious. They produce their own future, rather than simply foretell it."  -- Albert Bandura

"Before the 1960s, runners believed that the mile couldn't be run faster than 4 minutes. Doctors ran tests and said that physiologically, 4 minutes was the limit. Roger Bannister said that this limit was nonsensical, and after training long enough, was able to run the mile in less than 4 minutes."

Vilja att vidga

“We should work to cultivate positive emotions in ourselves and in those around us not just as end states in themselves, but also as a means to achieving psychological growth and improved psychological and physical health over time. I call this the broaden-and-build theory of positive emotions because positive emotions appear to broaden people’s momentary thought-action repertoires and build their enduring personal resources. Through experiences of positive emotions people transform themselves, becoming more creative, knowledgeable, resilient, socially integrated, and healthy individuals.” -- Barbara Fredrickson
